On 16th November 2015 the European Health Workforce Expert Group met in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting objectives ranged from providing further information on the draft WHO Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health, to sharing and discussing the latest developments in health workforce policy and presenting several initiatives that aim to foster European partnerships to address skill requirements within the health sector. The INHWE has produced a Policy Brief outlining further detail of the meeting content and detailed guidance on the applicability of discussions for each discipline.
The EU Health Workforce Expert Group is led by DG SANTE (Health and Food Safety) and covers a number of policy areas ranging from Education to Employment and Social Affairs. Its mission is to “provide a wide range of expert advice to the European Commission on issues related to the health workforce in Europe” and the group is tasked with assisting the Commission in the preparation of legislation and/or policy definition. The meeting is attended by representatives of all EU Member States and a number of NGO Associations covering public affairs, the medical profession, public health, research and employment.
