Call for Panels and/or Symposiums

The International Network for Health Workforce Education invite potential participants to submit proposals for Panels and/or Symposiums for the Congress. These Panels or Symposiums can be on the conference theme or any topic related to health workforce education. Sessions can be linked to large scale research projects (such as EU Funded projects) or a specific topic delivered by a group of professionals with similar or complementary research findings. The deadline for submitting proposals is 23:59 (CET) on Friday 27th January 2017.

Submission Categories

You can submit a proposal under any one of the following categories:

Education: Panels and/or Symposiums in this category should come from those actively engaged in the education of health professionals. Topics can include a number of inter-related themes such as faculty development (e.g. improvements and development of new teaching skills, assessment techniques, planning and implementing curricular or changing student-teacher relationships) and academic pedagogy (e.g. the latest innovations in inter-professional teaching, competency-based training programs and clinical reasoning education techniques).

Research: Panels and/or Symposiums in this category should be based on new emerging evidence regarding the education of healthcare professionals that are derived from academic and practice-based research. There are many prevalent issues where researchers need to assist educators to ensure that health professionals are trained adequately to care for patients in the future. Key areas such as increasing rates of chronic conditions and multi-morbidity, changes to health service structures, and workforce shortages in certain specialities or regions all have solutions that impact upon the education of the health workforce. Papers can be submitted on a range of sub-topics such as addressing specific new research for independent disciplines, new technological advances, and methods for horizon-scanning future skill requirements. All papers submitted must identify knowledge gaps or changes in evidence.

Policy: Panels and/or Symposiums in this category should be based on new policy initiatives and/or topical issues in the health education field. All papers submitted should cover at least one of the many challenges facing national and international policy makers. Issues such as shortages of educators, limited infrastructure, multi-dimensional roles of health professionals, and the increased demand on health workers are all high on the policy agenda. Applicants may submit papers where political decisions may not yet be established but will offer new perspectives and opportunities for active discussions.
