During the Web Summit 2019 in Lisbon, the European Commission launched a Call for action inviting companies, organisations, schools and institutions to recognise the need to bridge the digital skills gap in Europe. The lack of skilled workers on the European job market is holding back the digital transformation of businesses. 53% of companies that recruited or tried to recruit ICT specialists reported difficulties in filling these vacancies. It means that companies are not able to innovate and use advanced digital technologies as they struggle to find digital experts in particular in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, supercomputing or big data.
